GreenBox no. 33: Decatur Triangle

bringing regeneration into the heart of decatur

Nestled at the intersection of Ridgeland and Fairview in Decatur, an unassuming traffic triangle is seeing new life by bringing the conservation of Glenn Creek Nature Preserve into the surrounding neighborhood.

Originally started under the guidance of Jamie Rosenthal at Roots Down, GreenBox assumed management of Decatur Triangle earlier this year, and have been working to clear invasive cherry laurel, privet, and vetch, and establish a beautiful regenerative garden at the center of this already gorgeous neighborhood. This project shows how even the smallest space can be the site of beauty, abundance, and regeneration.

The Plan

For the remainder of the spring, the plan will be to remove all invasive species, and to expand the existing plantings to include understory species like Elderberry, Bottlebrush Buckeye, and Sweetspire, as well as add sun-loving color around the benches and Little Free Library.
