Does this actually work?

Yes. Skeeter Beeters target mosquitoes at the most vulnerable stage of their lifecycle, before they become flying, biting adults. By reducing mosquito larvae in breeding areas around your property, the system can help significantly reduce mosquito populations over time.

What's inside a Skeet Beeter Mosquito Trap?

Each Skeeter Beeter is a partially buried 5-gallon bucket fitted with a specially crafted lid. Inside is water, organic matter that attracts mosquitoes looking for breeding sites, mosquito dunk larvicide, and natural sticks and branches that allow beneficial insects and small critters to safely climb back out.

Are mosquito dunks safe?

Mosquito dunks use a naturally occurring bacteria called Bti that specifically targets mosquito larvae. When used properly, they are considered safe for pets, birds, pollinators, frogs, and other beneficial wildlife.

Will this kill bees and butterflies?

No. Skeeter Beeters are designed to target mosquito larvae specifically, without blanket spraying or fogging that can harm pollinators and beneficial insects.

How many do I need?

Most residential properties need between 3 and 6 stations depending on yard size, tree cover, drainage patterns, and mosquito pressure. A good rule of thumb is about 3 for every 10,000 sqft. During installation, we'll help determine ideal placement and suggest any additional traps if necessary.

Where are the buckets installed?

Skeeter Beeters are typically installed in shaded or semi-shaded landscape beds, woodland edges, rain gardens, or other discreet areas where mosquitoes naturally gather and breed.

Do I have to maintain them?

Very little. After installation, GreenBox will send seasonal reminders explaining when to refresh the mosquito dunk treatment and provide simple tips for maintaining the stations. We offer free dunk replacement for GreenBox Members. You can learn more about GreenBox Membership here.

How long do mosquito dunks last?

Most mosquito dunks remain effective for around 30 days depending on rainfall and conditions. We recommend checking stations monthly during mosquito season.

Will they smell bad?

No. The organic matter inside creates conditions attractive to mosquitoes, but the stations are designed to function without producing strong or unpleasant odors when maintained properly.

Are Skeeter Beeters visible?

The stations are intentionally discreet and partially buried to blend naturally into landscaped beds and garden areas. Most people barely notice them once installed.

Can Skeeter Beeters replace spraying?

For many homeowners, Skeeter Beeters provide a lower-impact alternative that helps reduce mosquito populations without broad chemical spraying. Results vary depending on surrounding environmental conditions and neighboring properties.

Do they work immediately?

You may notice improvements within a few weeks, but the best results usually build over time as mosquito breeding cycles are interrupted throughout the season.

Why does GreenBox offer this?

At GreenBox, we believe outdoor spaces should be comfortable, beautiful, and ecologically healthy. Skeeter Beeters are part of our broader mission to help homeowners enjoy their landscapes with zero chemicals and more balance.

Can I do this myself?

Absolutely. Skeeter Beeters are inspired by the “Mosquito Bucket of Doom” concept, and many homeowners choose to build their own systems. This excellent article from Sidewalk Nature explains the basic concept and science behind it.

GreenBox installation simply makes the process easier, cleaner, and more effective by professionally building and placing the stations based on your yard’s specific moisture patterns, shade conditions, and mosquito pressure areas.
